The 338 AM in a 32" barrel length would drive the 300 gr SMK to 3550 fps with the hybrid throat but again, after a few hundred rounds, it was pretty much over. If you want to test alot of loads you will burn up a throat very quickly.

The 338 lapua compared to the 338 edge are pretty close velocity wise. In your situation I'd just go 338 edge and get a new barrel. The 338 edge +p is a defensive edge only option. If I was starting new I'd go 338 lapua, the brass is available and better.
