How to remove theft attempted message

A couple days ago my wife needed in it while I was at work. She used a key that was cut to fit, but will not start the car. The the theft light in the dash stays on, and it displays "service theft deterrent system", "theft attempted" in the DIC. The message goes away when I push the button, but it comes back every time I start the car.
